Why do I need to register my sub-meter
Recharger Prepaid sub-meters must be registered by the meter owner so that the sub-meter can be activated and to allow tokens and vouchers to be purchased and loaded on to the sub-meter.
Registration also allows the meter owner to receive rebates which should be used to pay towards the meter owner’s electricity bill.
How do I register my Recharger prepaid sub-meter?
The meter owner must register a profile on Recharger’s online customer portal. This can be done online by visiting www.customerportal.recharger .co.za.
Click “register”, follow the prompts, complete the online registration and submit the required documentation.

What information do I need to provide during the registration process?
To successfully register a Recharger Prepaid sub-meter, the meter owner must provide a copy of his or her ID and a recent bank statement or bank confirmation letter.
Is there a fee associated with registering for your service?
We do not charge a fee for registering Recharger prepaid sub-meters.
Can I register multiple meters under the same account?
Yes, multiple Recharger Prepaid sub-meters can be registered on the meter owner’s online customer profile.
Are there any age restrictions for registration?
To register a Recharger Prepaid sub-meter, you must be the meter owner and be at least 18 years of age.
Can I edit my registration information after I've completed the process?
The meter owner can update certain information online. For security purposes, we may request further documentation to be provided or completed. You can send an email to our team at regforms@recharger.co.za to assist.
Is there a confirmation email sent after successful registration?
The meter owner will receive confirmation once the Recharger prepaid sub-meter has been successfully registered. Once registered, please allow at least 30 minutes for the sub-meter to be activated.
Are there any specific requirements or certifications needed for meter registration?
No certifications are needed to register a Recharger prepaid sub-meter, but certain documentation, like proof of ID and a recent bank statement or bank confirmation letter, is required. Please refer to our terms and conditions available on our website for further information.
Why is an ID required for registration of the sub-meter?
The meter owner’s ID is required to ensure the accuracy of the meter owner’s profile and to ensure that the meter owner is reimbursed with the relevant rebates.
What measures can be taken to protect personal information when an ID is used for registration purposes?

Why do I need to provide a bank account?
The value of the vouchers purchased are reimbursed to the meter owner which should be used to pay towards the meter owner’s electricity bill. These rebates are paid to the bank account nominated on registration of the Recharger Prepaid sub-meter.

What is Chainstore Vending?
With chainstore vending, the tenant or occupier purchases vouchers from retail outlets or online. A chain store fee of 10% (excluding VAT) of the cash value of the voucher is deducted from the cash value paid by the tenant or occupier to the chain store.
A monthly service fee of R27.00 (excluding VAT), which is payable by the meter owner to Recharger per prepaid sub-meter, is deducted from the meter owner’s rebate during months in which vouchers are purchased for the Recharger prepaid sub-meter.
I want my tenants to buy electricity from the stores?
With chainstore vending, the tenant or occupier purchases vouchers from retail outlets or online. A chain store fee of 10% (excluding VAT) of the cash value of the voucher is deducted from the cash value paid by the tenant or occupier to the chain store.

What is a sub-meter electricity rebate?
The rebate is the amount recovered by the meter owner from the electricity purchases made by the tenant or occupier, less the applicable service fees, which should be used by the meter owner to pay towards the meter owner’s electricity bill.
This amount is paid into the meter owner’s nominated bank account on the last day of the month and should reflect in the meter owner’s nominated bank account within three to five days.
When will I get my rebate / remittance / money / payment?
The vending cycle starts on the 25th day of the month and ends on the 24th day of the next month. Amounts due to the meter owner are paid on the 30th day (or the 28th if in February) of that subsequent month. Three to five working days must be allowed for the reimbursement to reflect in the nominated bank account.

I can’t buy electricity?
Please make sure that your Recharger prepaid sub-meter is registered. Without registering your Recharger prepaid sub-meter, vouchers and tokens cannot be purchased to load onto the sub-meter.
If your Recharger prepaid sub-meter has been registered, please allow 30 minutes for it to be activated. If you still have problems purchasing electricity, please contact us on 010 880 8000.
Vouchers not loading on the meter?
Vouchers and tokens are specific to the meter number provided on purchase. If the incorrect meter number was provided to the vendor or if the voucher number is incorrectly punched in, the voucher or token will not load successfully. If the problem persists, please contact us on 010 880 8000.
What is a tamper code?
Recharger’s prepaid sub-meters may enter tamper mode for various reasons, such as loadshedding and electrical surges or when any form of interference with the prepaid sub-meter occurs.
Meter owners may access their customer portal online to obtain a tamper code to unlock the Recharger prepaid sub-meter. If your prepaid sub-meter remains in tamper mode after a tamper code has been entered, please call us on 010 880 8000.
Changing your information
I want to change my banking details
The meter owner can apply to change his or her banking details at any time by completing the change of banking details documentation and submitting a certified copy of the meter owner’s ID and a bank confirmation letter or bank statements.

I have sold my property.
If the property on which a Recharger prepaid sub-meter has been installed has been sold, it is the registered meter owner’s duty to inform Recharger immediately.

Buy Vouchers
Do prepaid electricity vouchers expire?
- PRIVATE VENDING – Tokens purchased by the tenant or occupier expire after 12 months and must be used in numerical sequence according to the Token ID (TID) number which appears on the tokens. If tokens are used out of sequence, the token(s) which is/are skipped become invalid and cannot be used again.
- CHAIN STORE VENDING – Vouchers purchased at the retail outlets expire after 12 months and must be used before using tokens purchased from the Recharger landlord token vending website.

Where do I find my meter number?
The meter number is an 11-digit number which can be found on the front of the sub-meter or on the meter card or on the meter owner’s customer portal.
How does the sub-meter function?
A prepaid sub-meter does not replace the main electricity meter or any meter installed by the relevant electricity provider in any way. Sub-meters facilitate prepaid consumption of electricity. Vouchers or tokens are purchased by the tenant or occupier, from one of our retailers or online, or directly from the meter owner, and are loaded on the sub-meter.
For continued usage of the Recharger prepaid sub-meter, tenants or occupiers must ensure that there is a credit on the Recharger Prepaid Sub-Meter. The value of the vouchers purchased are reimbursed to the meter owner which should be used to pay towards the meter owner’s electricity bill.
How do I recharge my prepaid electricity sub-meter?
When you purchase electricity, you will receive a 20-digit number on your receipt. Enter the number on the sub-meter keypad followed by the enter button.
